Liquid penetrant testing (PT) is used by Geo-Per International as a non-destructive testing technique designed to detect surface defects and issues in plastics, metals, ceramic and other solid, non-porous industrial objects. Our CWI are very familiar with the process of liquid penetrant testing, having conducted it for a wide range of industries and customers.
The object in question must first be completely cleaned (often this is done through a process called phase cleaning). All contaminants such as oil, grease, dirt must be removed from the item before testing can begin. Once the item is cleaned, a penetrant or dye is applied to the surface of the object and left to soak for around 15 minutes, after which a dry chalk is applied. This chalk will react with any penetrant to reveal abnormalities and flaws, making them visible.
Geo-Per International offers liquid penetrant testing as a viable non-destructive testing type that is great for revealing surface level discontinuities that need to be found during a welding inspection.
Liquid penetrant testing is an inexpensive NDT technique that will help you to save money and keep your quality control standards high at the same time.
As a welding inspection company in Houston, Geo-Per International has performed liquid penetrant testing for numerous oil and gas companies, shipping companies and other industrial interests. The results of the testing are always different, but one thing always remains the same; our commitment to delivering excellence in quality and customer service!
