As the welding begins the CWI looks for inclusions, checks the evenness of the weld bead and crater level as these things if not done properly can lead to cracking and other issues that can cause a weld to fail or be sub-standard.

Finally, visual testing includes examination of the finished weld to ensure quality within certain parameters and if the weld is acceptable.
